Casey Stevens

Casey Ann Whitaker, 68, of Huntersville, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Casey was born on March 14, 1958, in Mooresville, North Carolina, the youngest of four children. She taught second grade at Lakeview Elementary for 31 years, where generations of students remember her reading corner, her endless supply of stickers and the way she knew every child’s name by the first Friday.

She married her high school sweetheart, Tom Whitaker, in 1980, and together they raised three children. Casey loved early mornings on Lake Norman, her vegetable garden, Sunday suppers that always ran long, and the cardinals that visited her feeder every winter. She never missed a grandchild’s ballgame and always brought too many snacks.

Casey is survived by her husband of 46 years, Tom; her children, Megan (Chris) Patterson, Ryan (Ashley) Whitaker and Lauren Whitaker; seven grandchildren; and her sister, Diane Moore. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and June Ellis, and her brothers, Jim and Danny.

A celebration of Casey’s life will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Huntersville United Methodist Church, 14005 Stumptown Rd, Huntersville, NC 28078. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you share a favorite photo or memory of Casey on her Legacy Website.
